The Challenge

Of 4 out of 5 people who are blind, their blindness is either preventable or treatable.
Women and girls are more likely to be blind than men. More than 20 million women in the world are blind and a further 120 million women are visually impaired.
In the developing world, women live with avoidable blindness because of tradition, culture and the role they play in society. In many cases, they simply can’t access or afford quality eye health care.
The Fred Hollows Foundation provides eye health services to female factory workers and delivers surgeries and screenings for women in remote and regional villages where eye disease remains largely undiagnosed.
